Come on, Girls!
The May holidays were rich in sport activities. Here is a brief summary of events, which proves that the citizens of Kartaly are really fond of sports. May 1 was marked by a track-and-field race. The regional basketball tournament among women was held on May 2.
The American company Kellogg Brown & Root, Inc. organized and sponsored that tournament and of course awarded prizes. At first the sportsmen warmed up, greet each other and at last the game started. The first two teams were “Kartaly-2” and “Desyatky” (Lokomotivny). From the start both teams played equally briskly and good, however, the basketball team of the cantonment became a leader and won the game with a score of 39:16. Then the school teams from schools №34 and №17 competed. It was a real struggle for a ball, a draw game for a long time. At last the score was opened and the school- team № 34 beat its competitors with a score of 21:9.
The match Magnitogorsk-Kartaly had nothing to do with a tournament and was considered a warming up before the game on May 3. The guests “warmed up” not bad leaving the Kartaly team behind with a 32:8 score. The winners of previous games (school №34 and the team of Lokomotivny) contended for the first prize. The girls from school №34 won and the other team got the honorary second prize. The games lasted for 4 hours and then there was a rewarding ceremony. KBR awarded the winner-team with a basketball uniforms. And all the other teams got the encouraging prizes, basketball balls and sweets. So that was the end of the regular competition. This tournament proved that there were many promising young sportsmen among women. We wish them good luck and glorious victories! Keep it up!
