In One Little Town
One of the greatest snipers of the World War II "Vasili Zaitsev"
April 17, 1944 is the birthday of town Kartaly. In 2002 Kartaly celebrated the 58th anniversary. Of course, for old towns it is a short period of time but for Kartaly it is the whole life. In the course of time Kartaly turned from small Cossack village into a city, famous for its great railway junction. In the town there are many railway organizations, and Kartaly is often called –the town of railway men. That’s how we, the citizens, call it. Kartaly is the town where one of the greatest snipers of the World War II Vasili Zaitsev lived. Probably, each citizen of our town has youth perception of the little native land. For me Kartaly means house, where I live, school, where I study, my friends, and, of course, the press-club, my favorite occupation. Our press-club “Monolith” was established on the13th of November in 2001. Every member of the club is seriously interested in journalism, because journalism is not a joke. We are very glad, that young journalists of our club were one of the first, who got acquainted with the representatives of the company “Kellogg Brown and Root”. This acquaintance developed into a cooperation, and now wherever Operations Manager Tim Trujillo and Area Manager Steven LeMelle go, one of the young journalists follow them. Thus, together with “Kellogg Brown and Root” we visited the orphanage house in Annensk twice. The representatives of the company brought the children fruit, vegetables, juice, sweets and what not. We also accompanied the KBR to the Poltavskaya Art School and school №34. We had the opportunity to follow them and take part in press – conferences, which were held at the technical school №128. More over we together with Steve LeMelle and Tim Trujillo visited the festival called “How People of Different Countries Spend Their Free Time ” and the regional competition of young journalists. “Kellogg Brown and Root” sponsored the contest and contributed much to its organization. We cheered the basketball men and women teams during the competitions organized and sponsored by KBR. We were present at the opening of the exhibition of local museum. The company “Kellogg Brown and Root” presented the museum with a computer. But the most unforgettable event was the party on 23rd of March 2002. Then the company “Kellogg Brown and Root” awarded a winner of the competition of emblems. To this celebration the representatives of the “DTRA” the agency, which deals with the reduction of nuclear menace arrived. They are: Harry Cook, Donald Waldrop, Steven Crouse and the representatives of the “Kellogg Brown and Root”: Wayne Lucas, William Suzuki and Bruce Keyston. The winner was chosen after the long and tedious work of the jury. It was very difficult to choose the best 6 pictures out of the 80. Wayne Lucas presented the authors of these pictures with certificates and money prizes, and Harry Cook gifted the winners with coins with a symbol of “DTRA” Agency. At the end of the rewarding procedure a small press conference with “DTRA” representatives and “KBR” was set up. So, the rewarding came to an end, but we are sincerely glad that our collaboration with “Kellogg Brown and Root” continues. We are going to keep it on going with “Kellogg Brown and Root”.
